The things we never do

Lunch at Snug HarborThere’s always a handful of things that I put off. Put off until when? Some mysterious time in the future? Some special occasion that never seems to happen? I would like to air some of these ideas out.

I’ve thought for a long time about doing an Azusa/Glendora beer ride. I’ve thought about it since the Hot Knives beer ride. Although this really wouldn’t work anymore, it was a pretty good plan. There are four really good liquor stores in the Greater Azusa area. They actually make a really good loop and tour of the area. And you know what? The Brown House would have been the perfect ending destination. Why did I never get this to happen you ask? I have no idea! I thought about it being on my birthday last year, but it felt like a lot to ask of people. But would it have been? Probably not. Would it have been really fun and doable? Probably.

A lot of the other things I put off have to do with food. Making soy chocolate milkshakes? Apple pies? French fries? There never seems a good time to do this. These are the quintessential special occasion foods to me. They are my absolute favorite items. Are any of them hard to make? Not really. Well, croissants would be. I should add croissants to the above list. I love croissants.

It’s also like why don’t we have people over? Why don’t we have a special occasion roof party? I don’t know. There is no time like the present people! It’s like the roller blades you got for Christmas but kept in your closet because you didn’t want to get them messed up. One day you pulled them out to go blading and they didn’t fit anymore! True story. Well, not really, but probably.

What are the things you put off? What are the things you always want to do but the time never feels right? Comment away friends. Let it out.

3 things I learned about England

  1. England has no good beer.
Period. We had an IPA that tasted like nothing. Worst than nothing. It was gross. And Cask Ales? BAH!
  2. England loves Gill Sans.
Gill Sans is the Helvetica of England.
  3. England has very good Indian food.
While there I had the best Dosa of my life.

Thirteen

Soup Nazi

IMG_2131.JPGStuffed Sandwich brought it. Avery line up on tap. Mind blowing. When the Knives said it was like soup nazi, they meant it. Not to say it isn’t way legit. “No Food? No Beer!” I feel you. It isn’t a bar. The pictures of Reagan. Not so much. That being said, I am clearly returning for Christmas in July. (Side Note: who wants to go?!)

Stuffed Sandwiches

Alright, the review. Food was legit. Straight up veggie burger. The best part was the horseradish. The “freedom fries” (a.k.a. air fries) were way delicious. But that’s clearly second to the real reason we came.

Avery on tap. I know. You can’t believe it. I couldn’t either, but it did. Hog’s Heaven on tap. So cold. So smooth. We were a bit late in the month so we missed the more rare beers. But it was still really cool to see Reverend, Hog’s Heaven, and Salvation on tap.

Thirteen

IMG_2158.JPGWe got to chatting before we left. Long story short. I bought Avery’s Thirteen ($9.95/9.5%). I’m a bit behind on this review (one year, Fourteen is very delicious as well). Part of their yearly anniversary offerings. Thirteen is a cross between a Weiss and Dopplebock. If this is lost on you. Join the club. Don’t let this stop you. (Side Note: I have never tried an Avery I didn’t like. Even that dark imperial strong stuff.) Back to Thirteen. It’s about as tasty as they come. Similar to their line up, this tastes very much like toffee. Not sweet, but thick and crisp. It’s complex. All thick and rich, but sweet and crisp. (Laura’s analyses : “It’s like banana bread. It’s sweet, but it still tastes like bread. Molasses.”)
